How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Pit and stem first. Finely chop and fold into yogurt or oatmeal, or cook until completely soft and burst.

Cut:

Finely chopped and pitted, or cooked until soft.

9-12 months

Prep:

Pit and stem ripe cherries, then quarter them or smash whole pitted cherries into flat discs.

Cut:

Quartered, or smashed flat.

12-18 months

Prep:

Keep pitting and de-stemming. Smash into flat discs or quarter. Only progress if your toddler takes safe bites.

Cut:

Smashed flat or quartered, pitted.

2 years and up

Prep:

Whole pitted cherries are okay around age 3 once you have modeled biting and spitting any pit into the trash.

Cut:

Whole pitted cherries.
