Strawberry

Usually introduced around 6 months

3 key nutrients

How to serve by age

6-9 months

Prep:

Pick berries that yield to gentle finger pressure. Mix mashed or cooked strawberry into yogurt or warm cereal for easier eating.

Cut:

Whole large berries with the stem removed if they are very soft and ripe. Otherwise mash or cook smaller berries.

9-12 months

Prep:

Same softness rule. Paper-thin slices can stick to the tongue or roof of the mouth and trigger gagging, that is normal.

Cut:

Thin slices of strawberry. Replace any munched-down piece with a fresh large berry.

12-18 months

Prep:

The riper and softer the berry, the lower the choking risk. Acidic fruit may irritate skin or worsen diaper rash with heavy intake.

Cut:

Sliced strawberries, with large whole or quartered berries once your child is ready.

Key nutrients

Vitamin CFiberFolate
